Cove Road Beach

On September 30 Wicomico County held a public meeting regarding planned park development at Cove Road Beach in Bivalve. Before the period for public comment ended we expressed unhappiness with the excessive number of parking spaces (59), excessive amount of disturbed area, and use of pavement instead of gravel or a porous material in about of half of the parking area.





As one of the homeowners who sold that property to the County, we were assured it would be a wildlife sanctuary, this is so disappointing. I have spent 45 years of my life there on weekends and summers, sadly the coastal storms and extreme high tides were enough. The bacteria level of the water was never an issue back then, blame that on all the extreme storms and run off from local farms, which is actually understandable with the extreme high tides. As a 30 year resident of the area, I am unsure about the area around Cove Beach to be a viable recreation area for that many potential visitors. The beach area has been bothered by closings on many occasions during the past years. Most of these were due to unsafe levels of bacteria in the area. I believe the majority of these were due to the physical location of the beach. ( in a very shallow area on the east side of the river, between Roaring Point and Ragged Point). There is just lot enough flow of water in the area where the beach is located.
